Uncharted 4: A Thief’send Review
Back in 2009 I was lost for the first Uncharted game as it seemed like Naughty Dogs had somehow taken the series back over Freeman and made it more family friendly. Fast forward to present day, and his latest adventure feels like a trip down nostalgia lane, complete with throwback gameplay, analog controls, and the series now featuring co-op. But is this the case? How much of a return is it? Is it even any fun?
Well, the answer to that is complex and something I didn’t think would ultimately be possible. An appearance of Nathan Drake in Uncharted 4 the action genre plays directly into the series’ origins as well as giving fans a sense of connection with the character himself. If anything, you could say it’s even better because it actually feels like you’re playing as Nathan Drake, rather than a bland leading avatar.
The game itself is still all about experiencing Drake’s story, which is both a positive and negative. The story is something I’ve never experienced before in a single player game, and the fact that there are multiple different endings tells it’s own story. The problem I had was usually finding what happened in the story to be interesting enough, and more often than not, feeling as if I would be learning something as a character, but not actually be learning anything regarding the story as a whole.
The newest addition to the series, Uncharted 4, comes close to holding it’s own, and even surpasses it’s predecessor, with a lot more direction. Uncharted 4 For the first time, you’re not just doing missions, but also working on the developments of Nathan Drake’s character which you are prompted to do in the first game.
Uncharted 4 also adds in a lot more activities, from drunken road trips to treasure hunts which take you further into the story and really help flesh it out into something more. The problem I found with this, is that you often have aarcity of time to really spend with the story and one thing you do in the game is gain more background information for the main quest. Is this something you really want, but the game is what it is and I understand offering a few hours to play – the length is going to be very short though.

Another thing you will find from Uncharted 4 is the satisfaction he brings when you’re able to put each and every puzzle you encounter. whether it’s a high scale fight or the smaller Uncharted 4 puzzles – there’s no shortage, and he shows that he hasn’t forgotten how to keep things interesting in the game.
As a final thought, there’s no doubt that this series has Uncharted 4 been one of the most amazing these console exclusives released over the years, and if you haven’t played Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, you really should.
Last but certainly not least, you’ll have to really love to find some bugs to point out in the game, which I assure you there are none. Overall, it’s an incredibly entertaining game with a well-crafted storyline and amazing mechanics. Uncharted 4 really is a joy to behold and walking the set gives you a great sense of pride seeing the attention to detail the developers have put in.
The multiplayer is also a lot of fun and features a standard drop-in/drop-out co-op which is, fun aside from its mutlipment support. What I really liked the most about it is that it allows you to use your characters. For example, you can load on Cole Machete and replay a level entirely with the character, while Elena plays the complete opposite character. It makes for a Bots welcome co-op experience. However, there is an ever growing sense of loss from your Uncharted 4 companions as they fade away. There is no particular private chat rooms though, so you can’t send short Uncharted 4 messages to them or say bye to them as you might do in a typical game. The loss ofWheazBEAT from my PlayStation 3 console makes me miss the days I had the power to play in co-op with my friends on a Saturday night. Co-op on the Xbox 360 has been much more successful with it’s creation of “MGulflets” which allows for you to team up with your friends. If memory serves me correctly, this will be implemented in playlist’s on the PSN. I also hope they keep the PS3 version around for folks that cannot have the Xbox 360 version.
The game itself has a challenging task of reaching 100% on all ten tracks. It’s an amusing task that has left me with a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment. In all, there’s 11 tracks to be completed in the game. You’ll be able to unlock and increase your characters abilities as you go along and the whole process will reward you with ingame monies.
